In 2018, CUF was one of the main sponsors of Estarreja's Carnaval – a national event that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country.
This year, CUF made a point of teaming up with one of the biggest events for the Estarreja community: its Carnaval. For several days, merriment takes over the city and the county gains national dimension.
The Estarreja Carnaval has ancient roots. In the beginning of the 20th century, the city hosted the ancient "Battles of Flowers" that, over generations, gave birth to one of the largest and oldest Carnaval pageants in Portugal.
The event, which starts on Friday night and ends only on Carnaval Tuesday, spreads joy and fun throughout the city. There are five "Samba Schools" and seven "Folia" (revelry) groups, 14 floats, 14 children's groups and five full parades. More than two thousand dancers and extras take over the streets with their high spirits, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
But this event that CUF sponsored is much more than just pageants. In these days, there was ample space for concerts, theatre shows and various ateliers, such as costume and "gigantones" (big-head giant puppets) workshops, and even Carnaval makeup dressing rooms.
